Conflict Resolution, Mediation and Mental Health

This course introduces students to the process of interest-based conflict resolution. Students will receive the knowledge and tools required to prevent and resolve workplace conflict. The topics covered include: identifying conflict and approaches to conflict, the common barriers to reaching agreement at work and how to overcome these barriers, communication and interpersonal skills necessary to build agreement, how to deal with impasse, how to manage employees who are aggressive, and how to work collaboratively towards mutually agreeable outcomes in the workplace. The Mental Health First Aid section of the course provides students with knowledge that will improve their mental health literacy. The course also provides students with the skills and knowledge to help people better manage potential or developing mental health problems in themselves, family members, friends or colleagues. Students who attend the entire 9 hours of Mental Health First Aid education will receive a Mental Health First Aid Certificate.
