Students will develop an understanding of managing a music venue and promoting concerts, building on knowledge acquired in the Tour Management and Live Sound classes. This course covers fundamentals of independent concert promotion, the current live music market and the issues affecting it (secondary ticketing, consolidation, 360 deals, the festival market, health & safety, Wall Street valuation, etc), risk management, health and safety, security concerns, plus maximizing ancillary, non-traditional revenue streams. Students will complete a major research paper on a self- selected live industry topic and will become familiarized with Toronto's live music venues, in which they may book and promote a concert.
