This course will introduce students to the theories and significance of effective networking in the music industry. One's progress in this business often depends a great deal on relationship building; therefore, the focus is on networking and personal selling to further career development at various stages and in any aspect of the industry. Students will learn the importance of self-awareness and reflective practice in effective networking, and realize the roles that their own principles and values play in the success of personal selling, relationship building, and career development. They will start an industry contact/resource "wish list", research and explore various tools and models of success in networking, identify ways to create and maximize industry networking opportunities, practice and enhance their networking and communications skills, apply traditional sales techniques to the music business, and develop an understanding of the importance of strategies for dealing with various personalities and unique situations in the music business.
