The subject matter will focus on the practical application of marketing theories examined in the Introduction to Marketing course. Students will spend the semester researching and developing a marketing campaign for a recording artist in a niche genre. Both traditional and digital artist marketing will be explored and students will become versed in a range of marketing tools, skills, & techniques including social media marketing, cross promotions, sponsorships & endorsements, street team and e-team management, release date planning, sales forecasting, international marketing, viral marketing, direct marketing, branding, media buying, direct to fan selling, retail marketing, and more. Differences in campaign planning for emerging artists and heritage acts will be explored as will the differences in marketing small scale grass roots acts compared to large scale platinum artists.
