Professional Communications I is an introductory course that focuses on developing one's ability to communicate on a personal and professional level. Principles of information literacy are introduced to increase experience with secondary research and professional writing. Class time will be spent on many interactive exercises and discussions. Throughout the course, the need to respect various cultures as well as intercultural communication will be explored. Factors that affect interpersonal communication will be studied with a focus on factors for constructive conflict resolution, principles of team dynamics and group processes that enable collaboration, and understanding one's own role and the role of other professions to establish and meet client goals. This area will set the foundation for integrating and valuing as a partner the input and the engagement of the client in designing and implementing health and oral healthcare service.
