Fire Emergency Patient Care I

This course will provide an overview of the Ontario Emergency Medical Care System and the specific roles of members of the emergency response team. Emphasis will be on the specific roles and responsibilities of the firefighter emergency medical responder (EMR) and the teamwork essential to the effectiveness of the EMS response. Content will include medical legal issues, firefighter wellness, basic anatomy and medical terminology, patient assessment, respiratory and cardiovascular emergencies, hemorrhage control, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), hemorrhage control, and the related patient care and associated situational management. The student will practice hands on skills and patient care scenarios in simulated learning environments. This course conforms to the National Occupational Competency Profiles (NOCP) of the Paramedic Association of Canada (PAC), for the competency standards required for the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR).
