Autism Spectrum Disorder and Developmental Disabilities

Students will study the history and current status of the assessment, treatment, and study of autism and developmental disabilities. Students will analyze diagnostic and classification systems, etiology, and identify and implement evidence-based interventions and discuss behavioural strategies that will meet specified needs. Students will develop an understanding of how philosophical perspectives related to disabilities have evolved over time and how current perspectives including person-centred planning, self-determination, and self-advocacy inform services and interventions.
