Ministry-approved title: Mechanical Engineering Technician (Non-Destructive Evaluation)
The Mechanical Engineering Technician – Non-Destructive Evaluation (fast-track) program is designed specifically for applicants with existing academic credentials. Students with a degree or diploma in a related field can add to their skill set or expand their knowledge of the non-destructive evaluation (NDE) industry and complete an advanced diploma and multiple NDT method and level training certificates in just two semesters.
Students will learn about materials and specific testing methods in order to examine structures and components such as cars, trains, airplanes, spacecraft, towers, bridges, ships, power plants and amusement park rides to name a few to identify and analyze possible defects.
In addition to gaining hands-on experience during the program, graduates will be eligible to receive the training certificates required for NDT personnel qualification in Canada and recognized worldwide upon successful course completion.

Durham College (DC) offers pre-admission assessment testing to mature domestic applicants to meet admission requirements in English and/or Math. Domestic applicants who are 19 years of age or older as of the start date of their program, and who do not have the required program credit(s), i.e. Grade 12 English and/or Grade 12 Math are eligible to take an admissions assessment test.

This fast-track program is for eligible domestic or internationally educated students or professionals with a previous Engineering, Science or industrial trade degree or advanced diploma. Relevant work experience may be requested and required for admission.
The two semesters will provide you with the training and hands-on practice necessary to begin a career in non-destructive evaluation/testing (NDE/NDT) and receive the training certificates required for NDT personnel qualification in Canada. In combination with your degree or diploma these skills will allow you to assess the information collected from the inspections/tests and provide an evaluation report.
NDT inspectors engage in the examination and testing of all engineered and manufactured products and structures. For example, but not limited to: cars, trains, airplanes, space craft towers, bridges, ships, power plants, amusement park rides etc. You will learn how to examine these objects without causing damage or impairment to their future use, hence the term non-destructive. You will also learn how testing this way is used to detect possible internal or external defects and examine material or object properties through destructive mechanical and metallurgical testing.
At the end of the program Certificates of training recognized worldwide by many organizations and governing bodies are provided for each successful method course completed with a 70 percent or higher grade. These certificates of training provide eligibility to apply for examinations qualifying you to Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) standard 48.9712 in Canada.
