Posted on December 8, 2021 at 11:14 am. This message is sent on behalf of Kevin Griffin, professor, School of Justice & Emergency Services, Durham College and chair of the Holiday Food Drive. Please direct any questions to Kevin. For more than ten years, the annual Campus Food Drive has helped hundreds of Durham College (DC) students and their families enjoy happier holidays by providing hampers of food. This year, with the added challenge of COVID-19 and rising costs of food across Ontario, supporting DC students and their families is more important than ever – which is why the Campus Food Drive was transitioned to a Food Insecurity Bursary last year. While we won’t be able to pack food hampers to deliver to those in need, we will provide bursary support for students with families (married/sole-support), and international and domestic students living away from home who are facing food insecurity. Do you need a little extra help this season? If you’re a DC student looking for support, please visit the Food Insecurity Bursary webpage to apply. Applications must be received before Monday, December 13. In order to be eligible, students must: Be enrolled in full-time studies for the fall semester. Full-time students registered as having a permanent disability through the Access and Support office who are studying at a part-time level are also eligible. Be currently residing in Ontario. Be supporting a family (married or sole-support) or be an international or domestic student living away from home and facing food insecurity. Please note: part-time students and those commencing their studies in January 2022 are not eligible. If you are not eligible for the Food Insecurity Bursary but are still in need of support, please visit https://www.durham.ca/en/living-here/food-banks.aspx. Getting to know the Centre for Skilled Trades and Technology Posted on November 25, 2021 at 11:15 am. This message is being shared on behalf of Don Lovisa, president, Durham College. With so many changes and developments happening at Durham College (DC), I want to take a moment to formally introduce you to the latest addition at our Whitby campus – the Centre for Skilled Trades and Technology (CSTT). After more than a year of effort and construction, this new space opened its doors in September and now that students and employees are settling in, I thought I’d take a moment to help you get to know it better. The CSTT expands the college’s overall capacity in Whitby by 60,000 more sq. ft. Designed to help shine a spotlight on skilled trades training, innovation and education, DC’s electrical, elevating devices and plumbing programs can now take advantage of its many labs, configurable classrooms and a double-height learning space which is home to a two-storey building model. In addition, the new building features, student collaboration areas and a brand-new 2,000 sq. ft. Fitness Centre, where employees and students can find state-of-the-art cardio, strength and free-weight equipment. It also includes HD TV on all cardio machines and change rooms with lockers and showers. We are incredibly proud of the continued growth and development at the Whitby campus and welcome you to enjoy the new space and all the learning and social opportunities it offers.
