Start Strong at DC

May 2026 first-year students will have access to PREP 1000 in mid-March – Keep an eye on your inbox for access details!

We’re excited to introduce you to PREP 1000 – a collection of online learning modules designed to help you navigate college life before your first day of classes. This is the first step in your orientation journey, and you’ll be introduced to key information that you’ll need to be successful at DC.

Through the modules you’ll learn how to:

• Navigate DC Connect, a central tool that will be used in your academic courses
• Upload assignments, take quizzes, and participate in online class discussions
• Select your timetable, set-up your bus pass and Campus ID
• Apply for financial aid and set-up your academic accommodations
• Purchase books and register for Student Academic Learning Services (SALS) Online
• Understand student expectations and available support services

Don’t worry, this is a non-graded activity, and you can work through the modules at your own pace between mid-March and the completion deadline of Friday, May 29, 2026. As an added incentive, when you complete the PREP 1000 online learning modules you’ll be entered into a draw for a chance to win a $250 campus gift card!  Winners will be notified by DC Mail. Good luck!

94% of students shared that they felt better prepared to start college after completing the PREP 1000 course and 96% felt more comfortable with DC Connect as a result of taking this course.

In addition to networking with others in your program, you will gain valuable insight into important dates and campus services available to you as a DC student. You’ll have an opportunity to explore campus with a guided tour showcasing key facilities and resources. We’ll also have the IT Support team available if you have questions or need help accessing DC Connect, PREP 1000, the DC network, and/or setting up your Campus ID.

This is an excellent opportunity to ask questions, meet our staff, and get a comprehensive understanding of how you can access support at Durham College. We look forward to welcoming you to the DC community!

• Access your DC Mail (college email account)
