Human Resources Management
From recruitment and selection to training and development, a career in human resources (HR) requires a focus on both strategy and people. Skill, knowledge and ability in human resource planning, occupational health and safety, compensation, hiring, employee development, labour relations and managerial accounting enable HR professionals to contribute to business success in an increasingly competitive global marketplace, while looking after an organization’s most important asset – its employees.
WEEKEND DELIVERY FORMAT
The weekend delivery format is tailored for students who wish to study full-time without attending traditional weekday in-person classes. All classes are conducted fully online on Friday evenings, Saturday, and Sunday. Please note that the Mental Health First Aid certification course may require a class time outside this schedule due to class size limitations and instructor availability. Additionally, there are self-directed (asynchronous) learning hours.
September 2027, January 2028, and May 2028 intakes will be available for online application at OCAS in late September.

The Human Resources Management (HRM) graduate certificate program is designed for individuals with previous post-secondary education (a college diploma or proof of English language proficiency is required) or related work experience (at least three years of relevant work experience in a human resources-related role). This program includes all nine courses required to meet the academic component of either the Certified Human Resources Professional Designation (CHRP) or the Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation. Students who receive an average grade of 70 per cent in these courses and maintain a minimum grade of 65 per cent in each course, meet the coursework requirements to write the Comprehensive Knowledge Exam 1 (CKE1) and Comprehensive Knowledge Exam 2 (CKE2) – a significant step towards achieving the CHRP or CHRL designation in Ontario. Students entering their first year of studies in a Faculty of Business and Information Technology program will receive a membership to all of Durham Region’s Chambers of Commerce and Boards of Trade for the duration of their studies, plus an additional year following graduation. With 30 years of experience in Business, Corey Gill specializes in navigating organizational change, managing global workforces, and responsibly leveraging AI and data. He holds an MBA, CHRL, and PMP designation and focuses on innovation, data analytics, and AI in Human Resources. Corey is a Durham College professor, program coordinator, and AI consultant who empowers both students and faculty.
Roberta Graham, a Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) with a BA and M.Ed, has over 20 years of executive-level experience managing HR for organizations both nationally and internationally. As a professor in the Faculty of Business and IT for the past 10 years, she is dedicated to student success and creating a positive learning environment. Her expertise lies in strategic HR management - aligning HR practices to enhance organizational effectiveness while promoting employee well-being.
Participating in the optional co-operative education (co-op) semester is an excellent way to build your professional network, explore career paths, and apply in-class teachings to real-world situations. Students in the Human Resources Management graduate certificate program will be invited to apply to the optional third semester co-op during their first academic semester. Entrance is limited, and the processes for securing a co-op are competitive. Students who qualify will be eligible to complete a four-month, paid co-op following academic semester 2.
The Work-integrated Learning (IWIL) program has been established to ensure that you are job-ready for an increasingly competitive market. As an important element of education, work-integrated learning intentionally integrates your academic studies within a work setting.
