Conflict Resolution, Mediation and Mental Health

This course introduces the human resources management student to the process of interest-based conflict resolution. The primary focus of the course is to equip students with the knowledge and tools required to prevent and resolve workplace conflict. Topics range from the identification of workplace conflict, to the barriers associated with reaching agreement at work and how to overcome these barriers, to the communication and interpersonal skills necessary to build agreement and work collaboratively towards mutually agreeable outcomes in the workplace. The Mental Health First Aid section of the course provides students with knowledge that will improve their mental health literacy and provides students with the skills and knowledge to help people better manage potential or developing mental health problems in themselves, family members, friends or colleagues. Students who attend the entire 9 hours of Mental Health First Aid education will receive a Mental Health First Aid Certificate.
