Exemplars

Faculty member speaking to two students in front of several bookshelves.

Wherever possible, consider providing the students with an example of the assessment. This provides further clarity on the expectations and can provide learners with inspiration as they complete the assignment.

Exemplars can be:

  • Created by a faculty member to show expectations and an effective approach for the assessment, or
  • A sample of work provided by previous student(s) to demonstrate a variety of levels of performance. If showing student work, ensure that written permission has been provided and identifying information removed.

Exemplars inspire performance and creativity, so long as there is a diversity in the provided samples. Be sure to let students know when they are free to make creative choices.
