Develop a Flexible or HyFlex Course

The Importance of DC Connect in Flexible/HyFlex Learning

DC Connect, Durham College’s Learning Management System (LMS), is the central source for course content. It is used to provide resources and activities for students in all learning modes. This tool can support learning by supporting:

  • executive functioning
  • alleviating cognitive load
  • ensuring the course is digital by design

How a course is organized and managed in DC Connect is vital for successful flexible delivery. A few examples you may want to do within DC Connect could include:

  • Post your course outline
  • Post a welcome announcement on DC Connect and include details on how flexible or HyFlex delivery will work, this will reduce student apprehension.
  • Consider including a video introduction to yourself!
  • Provide clear and explicit instructions for students. If instructions differ based on modality, provide instructions for each modality.
  • Provide a checklist for technology your students will require, such as:
    • I have a laptop or tablet.
    • I have a web camera so the instructor can see me if I join online.
    • I have a microphone so the class can hear me if I join online.
    • I have headphones or earbuds so I can hear the class if I join online.
    • I have the required software for my class:
      • Zoom or Teams to join the class online.
      • Other software required for my course, as indicated by my professor.
  • Chunk your course content into weekly modules in DC Connect.
