Randomization Options Randomize: Answer Choices Answer choices will appear in a different order for every student. Select Quizzes from the course navbar. Select the Question Library tab. Click on the name of the question you want to edit. Click the Randomize answers for each student checkbox. Save. Shuffle: Question Order If your quiz contains questions only (no sections), then every student will see the questions in a different order. Note: If your quiz contains sections and questions, skip to Shuffle: Sections and Nested Questions below. Select Quizzes from the course navbar. Click on the name of your quiz. Click on the Shuffle order of questions at the quiz level check box. Click the Save button to remain in this tab (or Save and Close to save your changes and exit the question). Click on the name of your quiz. Click on the Shuffle order of questions at the quiz level check box. Click the Save button to remain in this tab (or Save and Close to save your changes and exit the quiz). Draw: Randomly from a Question Pool If you draw a limited number of questions from a larger pool of questions, it is possible that students will receive completely different questions from one another. Select Quizzes from the course navbar. Click on the name of your quiz. Click on the Add/Edit Questions button. Click the New button. Select Question Pool. Give your Question Pool a Title (this is equivalent to creating a section within your Quiz, although students do not see the title). Enter the number of questions you want D2L to randomly draw in the Number of Questions to Select field. Enter the points each question will be worth in the Points per Question field. Click the Browse Question Library button. Place checkmarks next to the questions you want to include in the pool. D2L will select from these questions. Note: Questions can come from different sections in your Question Library. You may have to click the triangle to the left of the section name to see the nested questions. Click the Add button. Click the Save button. Repeat this process if you wish to have multiple sections in your quiz, with each section drawing from a random set of questions. When you are finished, click the Done Editing Questions button. Click the Save button to remain in this tab (or Save and Close to save your changes and exit the quiz). Shuffle: Sections and Nested Questions If your quiz contains sections, you can shuffle the sections, the questions within any section, or both. Select Quizzes from the course navbar. Click on the name of your quiz. Click on the Shuffle order of questions at the quiz level check box. Click on the Add/Edit Questions button. Click the caret next to the section name to open the Actions menu. Select Edit. Check the Shuffle questions in this section option. Click Save. Repeat this for every section in your quiz for which you want to shuffle the questions. Click Done Editing Questions. Click the Save button to remain in this tab (or Save and Close to save your changes and exit the quiz). Randomize: Some Questions but not Others For this, you will have to put the questions you want to shuffle into a section in your quiz. Select Quizzes from the course navbar. Follow the instructions to create a section in your quiz. Be sure to select the Shuffle questions in this section option. Click on the section folder to open it. Import your questions (skip to step 3 after you open the link). Click the Save button to remain in this tab (or Save and Close to save your changes and exit the quiz).
