Microsoft Stream/Clipchamp

 Name Change Notice

Microsoft Stream and Clipchamp have merged into a single platform. This transition has been gradual, so you may not notice major changes aside from the updated branding—Stream will now be known as Clipchamp. While the Stream name will be phased out, its video features will continue to be available within Clipchamp. As we move through this change, please note that references to Stream or Clipchamp may be used interchangeably.

 Sharing Permissions Notice

Due to default sharing settings in Durham College’s Microsoft 365 environment, embedded Stream videos will not display correctly unless specific users or groups are manually granted access. To ensure accessibility, we recommend using the “Copy Link” option when sharing videos.

Clipchamp (previously Microsoft Stream) is a Microsoft 365 video service that allows faculty and students to upload, create (capture and edit), view and share videos securely within our institution. All students, faculty and staff at Durham College have access to Clipchamp as part of the Microsoft 365 suite.

Accessing Clipchamp/Stream:

  • Faculty & Staff - Go to Microsoft365.com and sign in with your DC email and your network password. Select Apps from the menu on the left, then select Clipchamp. If you do not see it listed, select All apps.
  • Students - Login through dcmail.ca and select Apps from the menu on the left, then select Clipchamp. If you do not see it listed, select All apps. To watch a video that has been shared, students can click directly on the video link being shared with them (they will be required to login with their DC Mail credentials).

      How to Use Clipchamp:

Below are some resources to provide support with the use of Clipchamp.

      SHARE VIDEOS WITH CLIPCHAMP:

Clipchamp videos are actually being stored in OneDrive, so sharing a video file can be done the same way you share other files in OneDrive. Just remember to enable captions!

        Captions:

Remember, all videos must have captions to meet accessibility requirements. Whether you are uploading a video or creating one using Clipchamp, it is important to ensure captions are generated. Most videos will generate captions automatically; however, it may take a bit of time for them to appear. If a transcript / captions do not generate on their own, follow the steps below:

With the video open, select Video settings in the right menu.

TIP: If video settings aren’t displayed on the right-side of your screen, confirm that you are in “Editing” mode and not “Viewing” mode.

Expand the Transcript and captions section and select Generate to create automatic captions, or Upload if you have a professional caption file. If you do not have a Generate button, the captions are already processing in the background and might require additional time.

        Notes:

        • It can take time for automatic captions to be generated. Generally, this can take 1-2 times the length of the video, however, this timeframe can be longer depending on other factors.
        • Check to see if your video has captions by looking a transcript displayed to the right of the video, or a CC button on the player.
        • If your video does not have captions after waiting a day, please contact the CTL for assistance.

If professional captions are required, please complete the CTL Captioning Request Form (bottom of the page).

        EDITING:

        EXPORT & SHARE VIDEOS:
Many sharing options exist for videos; use whatever works best with your current workflow. If you are looking for an alternative to sharing videos in YouTube, consider using OneDrive/Clipchamp. The instruction document below will walk through how to export a video from Clipchamp and then share it using Microsoft OneDrive/Stream/Clipchamp.

Why are OneDrive and Clipchamp sometimes referenced interchangeably? Microsoft has integrated OneDrive and Clipchap so closely that it can be hard to differentiate between them when dealing with video.  Easy explanation: OneDrive stores the video files; Clipchamp creates and plays the videos and provides control of video settings and features.
