Additional notes when using specific content types • If you are using a content type that requires a microphone When using an H5P content type that requires the use of a microphone connected to or attached to your device, the following attribute needs to be included in the embed code: allow="microphone" Example of original H5P embed code: <iframe src="https://h5pstudio.ecampusontario.ca/h5p/40110/embed" width="993" height="434" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe><script src="https://h5pstudio.ecampusontario.ca/modules/contrib/h5p/vendor/h5p/h5p-core/js/h5p-resizer.js" charset="UTF-8"></script> Example of fixed H5P embed code with new allow microphone attribute (microphone attribute in green and bolded): <iframe src="https://h5pstudio.ecampusontario.ca/h5p/40110/embed" allow="microphone"width="993" height="434" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe><script src="https://h5pstudio.ecampusontario.ca/modules/contrib/h5p/vendor/h5p/h5p-core/js/h5p-resizer.js" charset="UTF-8"></script> Examples of H5Ps You Can Use The CTL has created some H5Ps which align to various aspects of teaching. These can help inspire you to create some, or you are welcome to use these as is in your courses. If you have an idea for an H5P but are unsure how to create it, please reach out to dcconnect@durhamcollege.ca and someone from our digital team can help. Course Outlines Here is an example of an H5P which is a course outline scavenger hunt. These are great to use when you want to encourage students to read and understand the course outline. If you would like to use this in your course, you can select the embed button at the bottom of the H5P and insert it directly into your DC Connect shell. If you would like to make edits, select the reuse button and download the .h5p file, you can then upload it to your personal account following the instructions above on this page. You can also access the H5P through eCampusOntario. Connection Activities In the course overview, we recommend having connection activities to align with the Jumpstart Model to prepare students for learning and gauge where they are in their understanding. One option is a Think-Puzzle-Explore Activity which encourages students to begin critically thinking about the upcoming content and consider any questions or gaps they may have in their knowledge prior to starting the content. Summary Activities When completing a 'chunk' of content, aligned with the Jumpstart Model to allow students the opportunity to reflect on their learning and identify their own knowledge gaps. Below are a few different options you can use as a summary activity. Connect-Extend-Challenge This activity asks students to anchor the learning from the current section to previous learning and challenges them to consider how they can further extend their understanding and highlight where they have gaps remaining. You can also access the H5P through eCampusOntario. I Used to Think..., But Now I Think... This activity asks two questions, for students to reflect on what they knew prior to the lesson, and how the lesson has changed or reinforced that knowledge. You can also access the H5P through eCampusOntario. Muddiest Point This is a great activity which is also a common active learning strategy that can be used synchronously and asynchronously. The technique consists of asking students to jot down a quick response to one question: "What was the muddiest point in ______?" The focus of the Muddiest Point assessment might be a lecture, a discussion, a homework assignment, a play, or a film. You can read more about Muddiest Point on the Active Learning page of the CTL website. You can also access the H5P through eCampusOntario. One-Minute Paper This is a great activity which is also a common active learning strategy that can be used synchronously and asynchronously. The technique consists of asking students to spend one minute at the end of class summarizing a key idea from the lesson. You can read more about One-Minute Paper on the Active Learning page of the CTL website. You can also access the H5P through eCampusOntario. If you would like to use any of the above examples in your course, you can select the embed button at the bottom of the H5P and insert it directly into your DC Connect shell. If you would like to make edits, select the reuse button and download the .h5p file, you can then upload it to your personal account following the instructions above on this page. Tests There are great reflective practice strategies that can be used for tests. These are good for students to have an accurate measure of how their prep impacts their grades, but can also give instructors strong insight on how the test was received. Here is an example of a post-test reflection: If you would like to use this in your course, you can select the embed button at the bottom of the H5P and insert it directly into your DC Connect shell. If you would like to make edits, select the reuse button and download the .h5p file, you can then upload it to your personal account following the instructions above on this page. You can also access the H5P through eCampusOntario. Feedback Giving good feedback (students and instructors) is an important aspect of learning. The RISE (Reflect, Inquire, Suggest, Elevate) Model of Meaningful Feedback helps students structure and provide meaningful peer feedback. This H5P is also present on the Peer Feedback page of the CTL website, but can be used in courses where peer feedback is being used to help instruct students on wise practices. If you would like to use this in your course, you can select the embed button at the bottom of the H5P and insert it directly into your DC Connect shell. If you would like to make edits, select the reuse button and download the .h5p file, you can then upload it to your personal account following the instructions above on this page.
