College preparation How can I prepare for the assessment session? Remember, the assessment is not a pass or fail experience; it simply shows the skills you have gained or lost since you have been away from school. Math – a review of the following subjects may be helpful: decimals, fractions, metric, order of operations, ratio and proportion, per cents, geometry, algebra, and trigonometry. When your results have been calculated, you will be contacted. This process typically takes one week. If you have not received your results after one week, please contact our office at 905.721.3131. When can I start Academic Upgrading? Start dates vary throughout the semester. What courses can I take? Courses include: Foundations – Math Foundations – Communications College Preparation – Math College Preparation – Communications Courses availability may change form time to time. How much does Academic Upgrading cost? Tuition assistance is covered through the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development Employment Ontario initiative. In addition, travel and child care funding is available to those who qualify. How long does it take? Courses vary in length from seven to fifteen weeks. Will I get my Grade 12? Students in the Academic Upgrading program can achieve Grade 12 equivalency in math and English. In most cases, this will fulfill the requirements for entrance into a college program, apprenticeship, or employment. You can take only those courses you need to reach your goals.
