Whitby parking FAQ’s

As previously communicated, construction has begun on the Whitby campus Phase IV expansion. While the new building is a welcome addition, there has been a reduction in the number of parking spaces available onsite due to the installation of hoarding, which is a necessary part of the construction process.

We understand parking and access to campus is essential to the college’s students, employees and visitors. With this in mind, Durham College has secured additional offsite parking 1.6 km away at the Whitby Entertainment Centrum, home to the Landmark Theatre, located at 75 Consumers Drive.

The offsite lot is provided free of charge to any students or employees registered to park there. Currently a complimentary shuttle runs at 15 minute intervals between the offsite lot and the Whitby campus from the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.

As of Monday, February 3, the hours will be extended from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, with the exception of one 15-miniute break between 6:30 and 6:45 p.m. daily. Shuttle seats are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Offsite parking is available to all students, apprentices and employees.

Parking passes for the offsite lot are still available for the winter semester – Wednesday, January 1, 2020 to Thursday, April 30, 2020.

Parking at the offsite lot is free. Even though parking in the offsite lot is free, you will still need to register your vehicle. Once registration is complete, you can pick up your hang tag in the Whitby campus Parking Office. If you will need to park in the offsite lot more than once a week, due to timing of your schedule, Whitby Parking Services asks that you:

The designated area for parking is the north-east corner of the parking lot, north of the Hockey Life store. Look for DC signage marking the spaces.

Currently, a complimentary shuttle bus runs every 15 minutes between the offsite lot and the Whitby campus from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday and is provided free of charge to any students or employees registered to park there.

Beginning on Monday, February 3, the service will be available every 15 minutes from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, with the exception of one 15-miniute break between 6:30 and 6:45 p.m. daily. Shuttle seats are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Alternatively, Durham Region Transit, Route 910, runs direct between the two locations every 15 minutes.

Even though parking in the offsite lot is free, you still need to register your vehicle. Spots in the offsite lot are limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Once you have registered, you can pick up your hang tag in the Whitby campus Parking Office.

Note: Any unregistered cars parking in the Whitby Offsite Parking Lot are not eligible for the shuttle and are subject to parking enforcement.

If you will need to park in the offsite lot more than once a week, due to timing of your schedule, Whitby Parking Services asks that you:

If you have already paid for an onsite Whitby campus annual parking pass but would prefer to park in the offsite lot, contact the Whitby campus Parking Office no later than Tuesday, December 31, for a $300 refund (some conditions may apply).  Your annual pass will be reactivated again (at no additional charge), at the Whitby campus, from Friday, May 1, 2020 to Monday, August 31, 2020.

Winter semester passes are valid from January 1, 2020 to Thursday, April 30, 2020. There is currently a wait list for onsite parking at the Whitby campus. Visit the Parking Services registration site to add your name to the wait list.

While daily parking at the Whitby campus does exist, it is also be restricted. As construction proceeds, there may be some closures or the reduction of spaces due to general construction and traffic re-routing.

If you are purchasing a permit for the first time, start by visiting the Parking Services registration site, for rates, availability and to buy your pass, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Permits apply to the winter semester which runs from Wednesday, January 1, 2020 to Thursday, April 30, 2020.
