About this class

It has been said that humankind has entered a golden age of learning. The availability of more affordable and accessible digital technologies, which the current pandemic has accelerated, has led to more people in more parts of the world being able to share information and learn from institutions of learning and from each other more easily than at any time in history.

But better, more available technology does not necessarily mean that the problems which have long stood in the way of young people being able to reach their potential – racism, poverty, social marginalization – become less important. It might be said that they can become even more significant, when so much of our attention is concentrated on technological development – when our attention can move ever further from the more pressing and lasting social problems that lie at the heart of our societies.

In these two interactive classes, noted international educator and author Cia Verschelden, whose books on helping students around the world to reach their full potential and thrive in our global technological society in spite of the daily obstacles they continue to face in their lives, will guide a rich conversation with other classmates that explores the problems that continue to stand in the way of students being able to reach their potential and the solutions that have emerged from her research, teachings, and books.
